God Provides ...
I believe it is easy to say, the dog days of summer have come upon us. As the heat goes up each day, my motivation for doing outside projects goes down, and the air conditioning demand goes up. The current temperatures have made me think, I wonder what it was like for God's people to wander through the dessert for so many years.
I will not presume to know what the temperature was like or even what the topography was like. But I do know from God's Word that it was a long time and there was grumbling. To read this account read Exodus 12 and following.
Just like the Israelite, we too often grumble, question and complain. Here we are in month four or six, depending when you start counting, of the Covid pandemic. We are seeing an increase of tests, positive cases and countless questions and wonderings. Combine that, along with the unrest of our culture filled with other issues, and I don't think our short time in this pandemic compares to the forty years in the desert. But what I do see in the account of the Israelites and now our time ... God provides!

Look at what God did for his people ...
- Opened the Red Sea and helped them escape the Egyptians.
- Provided Manna and Quail.
- Led by a cloud during the day and fire at night.
- Showed His desire to be their God and them be His people.
- Gave the Ten Commandments.
- Led them to the Promised land.
Sure there could also be a list of all the things that were uncomfortable, unpleasant, etc, etc...
But why focus on the negative?
God was with His people and He is with us now.
Matthew 28:20 - "And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Jesus says this when he is giving his followers the great commission. The same is true with us in these times of questions, uncertainty and grumbling. His promise it true. He is with us and He is sending us to spread His love and make disciples.
Matthew 6:25-34 - 25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?" "Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life? And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."
