Come See
Suppose you are on a television game show and you are asked: “I am a fan of ……” It's your choice. It could be a sports team, an actor, a TV show, a kind of book, music, etc. What’s the first thing that came to mind? Being a fan implies interest, appreciation, and excitement.
The book of John tells us about Jesus inviting people to follow Him. Some were very interested, others not. One, named Andrew, was very interested. He and a companion wanted to learn more about Jesus to which Jesus replied, “Come and see!” The two accepted Jesus’ invitation and spent time with him. Two others joined the gathering and they spent the night in the house where Jesus was staying.
Andrew was impressed. He liked what he heard. The first thing Andrew did was to find his brother Simon and tell him, “We have found the Messiah” (that is, the Christ). And he brought him to Jesus. We know Simon as Peter, one of the great leaders of the early Christian Church! Aren’t you glad Andrew felt compelled to share the Good News he had heard?

What must Andrew have been like? Inquisitive? Searching? Looking for some kind of truth and meaning in life? The words of Psalm 139:1-8 may be what Andrew discovered:
1 You have searched me, Lord,
and you know me.
2 You know when I sit and when I rise;
you perceive my thoughts from afar.
3 You discern my going out and my lying down;
you are familiar with all my ways.
4 Before a word is on my tongue
you, Lord, know it completely.
5 You hem me in behind and before,
and you lay your hand upon me.
6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,
too lofty for me to attain.
7 Where can I go from your Spirit?
Where can I flee from your presence?
8 If I go up to the heavens, you are there;
if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.
Aren’t those the kinds of things most of us are looking for? Andrew found his answers in Jesus, and we can, too. And, just like Andrew, we can tell others what we’ve come to know as truth.
These early followers devoted their lives to the message of Christ. They shared it wherever they found opportunity and it spread out to the rest of the world, and that includes us!

4832 Ponderings:
- Thinking back over the past week, how many people did you encounter that may not know about Jesus? What opportunities did you have to “live, share and pass on the faith?” What’s one thing that you perhaps could have done differently?
- This week, how can you pray for someone who may be wanting to know about God?
- This week, look for opportunities to simply be more hospitable to others – to share the joy that is in you.
