Through New Eyes
Through New Eyes
Can you recall something that a parent or loved one gave you as an inheritance, keepsake, or memento? Do you still have it? My mother kept my father’s eyeglasses long after dad had passed and began to enjoy eternity through new, perfect eyesight! It was something that reminded her of her beloved husband, and a meaningful symbol of how he viewed the world.

God offers us a new perspective on life. His perspective. When God invites us to become followers of Jesus, the Bible says that God moves in and takes up residence in our life and being. It further contrasts our old self with our new self. As God’s Spirit moves in, it pushes against the old sinful nature we struggle against. It says we are not in bondage to that old nature; we have been freed to enjoy the new nature we have through our relationship with Jesus.
The Bible describes this transition as one from slavery to becoming a child, an heir, a member of God’s family. He gives us a special, loving name with which we can call out to Him: “Abba! Father!”
Part of this freedom through Christ is a release from fear; fear of our past, fear of failure; fear of other people. We are free to simply embrace God’s leading through the Holy Spirit and be His representative in our world! Our perspective and outlook changes and we discover that our life is not about us, it’s about Him!

The Lord watches over you – the Lord is your shade at your right hand; the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord will keep you from all harm – he will watch over your life; the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore. Psalm 121:5-8
