Get Ready, Get Set...
At some point in your life (any age) did someone suggest or encourage you to pursue a specific career, interest, or hobby? Did you? How did it turn out? There’s a place in scripture where Jesus, after he rose from the dead but before he returned to heaven, was talking to his disciples and he directed them to wait for a while, and then respond. He had a mission for them, but it wasn’t time to put it into action just yet.
It seems, sometimes, that our lives are a continual cycle of waiting and responding. The challenge can be to figure out when to wait and when to respond. Other times we may feel compelled to act but have difficulty doing so. We think we are ready but hesitant to move forward. It’s almost like at the beginning of a race, “Get ready, get set… get ready, get set… get ready, get set…” and so on, but never getting to the “go!” response.
When Jesus told his disciples to wait and then respond, he added a very important piece of the puzzle. He told them to wait until the Holy Spirit comes to empower them. And the Holy Spirit did! We celebrate that coming of the Holy Spirit in a powerful way at Pentecost. It was a terrific event (see chapter 2 of the book of Acts).
But this isn’t the only coming of the Holy Spirit. As believers in, and followers of Christ, we are empowered by that same Holy Spirit. First, He creates faith in us, then equips us with gifts, guides, forgives, and protects us. We are truly empowered!

With what gifts do you feel God has empowered you?
What are ways God is asking you wait? To respond?
Your Sending:
May God our Father himself and our Master Jesus clear the road to you! And may the Master pour on the love so it fills your lives and splashes over on everyone around you, just as it does from us to you. May you be infused with strength and purity, filled with confidence in the presence of God our Father when our Master Jesus arrives with all his followers. 1 Thessalonians 3:11-13 The Message version
