Still Snowing
Still Snowing
For many of you reading, you may be asking yourself, “Am I sick of snow yet?” Some of you already answered that question a long time ago! Stores are already decked out with Easter candy, pool toys and barbeque grills! And now it’s snowing again!
The beauty of snow:
Even though snow is accompanied by cold weather, slick roads and shoveling, you have to admit it is beautiful! A Christmas song comes to mind: “The snow lay on the ground, the stars shone bright, When Christ the Lord was born on Christmas night.”
Snow teaches us important lessons:
God’s voice thunders in marvelous ways;
he does great things beyond our understanding.
He says to the snow, ‘Fall on the earth,’
and to the rain shower, ‘Be a mighty downpour.’
So that everyone he has made may know his work,
he stops all people from their labor.” Job 37:5-7
“As the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts.
As the rain and the snow
come down from heaven,
and do not return to it
without watering the earth
and making it bud and flourish,
so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater,
so is my word that goes out from my mouth:
It will not return to me empty,
but will accomplish what I desire
and achieve the purpose for which I sent it. Isaiah 55:9-11
Snow reminds us of God’s saving grace:
Sometimes we get down on ourselves or our circumstances and in doing so, focus on the negatives of life. Things change, we compare ourselves to others and feel inferior, people sometimes keep us at arm’s length, people misbehave, we misbehave. Sometimes life feels like an ugly, chaotic landscape.
And then because God loves us so much, He intervenes, reaches out, protects, guides and empowers. We are not condemned; we are redeemed through Christ! Suddenly, the ugly landscape is replaced by a pure, unblemished blanket of grace as white as snow!
“Come now, let us settle the matter,” says the Lord. “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool.” Isaiah 1:18
It’s time to celebrate, every day!
- Our plans and expectations are subject to circumstances beyond our control. We need to be willing to adapt.
- Is what you wanted to do today really important? Is it worth the risk of treacherous driving?
God’s voice thunders in marvelous ways;
he does great things beyond our understanding.
He says to the snow, ‘Fall on the earth,’
and to the rain shower, ‘Be a mighty downpour.’

- An inconvenience today may be an investment in the future. God has created a magnificent way to store water in the wintry mountains until it is needed. Moisture that comes today will be appreciated in the heat of the summer. The benefit is rarely immediate.
