I'm Just Renting

I don't own anything.  When I die, nothing is coming with me.

I know - I check the box 'own' when I'm filling out a form about my house but I should really be marking 'rent' because my house is not coming with me.  You really should be marking 'rent' as well.

Our houses and apartments and condos are all full of stuff  we would say that we 'own' but it's all staying here when we leave this earth.

The Apostle Peter says, " Dear friends, I warn you as 'temporary residents and foreigners' to keep away from worldly desires that wage war against your very souls." 1 Peter 2:11.

Peter calls me and you 'temporary residents'.

I like it!

Living in this world is often disappointing and difficult.  It's confusing and full of conflicts.  My last moment of joy seemed so fleeting while some of my problems seem to hang on forever.

Can you relate?

Have you heard someone say they are looking for their 'forever home' or that they are living in their 'forever home'?  When I hear people here on earth say that, I'm really glad to know that my 'forever home' is not here - it's in a much better place.

There will be no illness or pain in heaven.  All of our questions and trials and grief are going be left behind along with everything we think we 'own'.  I have come to realize that the hole left in my life when my son was killed will only be filled in heaven.

So I'm good with my temporary, renting status here on earth.  When my lease is up, I'm going home, where I belong.....forever.
