The Meaning of Life
What is the meaning of life?
Purpose: the reason for which something is done or created or for which something exists.
We can count the minutes of life literally, you know 60 minutes/hr, 24 hrs/day; 365 days/year about 80 years of life. Or we can review the moments of life when we truly understood that there was a greater meaning to our story. You know…the time that you intervened in an accident, or grabbed a child’s hand just before they stepped off the curb into the street. The time that you stood in the gap to prevent violence. Or the time you chose to be silent. There are so many life events that get woven into time, and lost with the passing of minutes into hours. It is easy to forget and sometimes it is hard to forget, both are true.
There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens. A time for speaking and time to be quiet. A time to reach out and share and a time to with-hold. There is a time to move forward and truly a time to wait. Time…marches on but we know that it is God who makes all things beautiful in His time.
We live in a world that is broken. We long for perfect relationships with family, with neighbors, with workmates, with the grocery store clerk, with our the stylist and the dog groomer. All of these people are part of our story. Have you wondered why you are just right where you are today? Have you looked back over life and asked, “who am I to influence for the good of society today?” Do your prayers reflect this?

Somedays I have looked backward and been perplexed at jobs accepted, jobs turned down, opportunities that remained on the table, and others that were pursued. In the midst of the yes and the no, God was at work! Our family sometimes contracted, and expanded based upon decisions that were made. Did we know in the moment? No, but God was at work. The purpose was not absolutely clear. The moments have been long at times, but the years have flown by in the blink of an eye! We celebrate both trials that grew our faith and the celebrations that have been bestowed. Today is a new day for enjoying our work, to celebrate the many blessings of life!
So I saw that there is nothing better for a person than to enjoy their work, because that is their lot. For who can bring them to see what will happen after them? Ecclesiastes 3:22
