What are you thinking about?
Today I am remembering the view of the mountains from the small nature preserve. The grassy meadow in the spring gives way to the rocky crags of the flatirons to the west. On a clear day one can see Long’s Peak towering above the peaks of the highest ranges in the distance. Another picture comes to mind: I am thinking about a beach in northern California called “Half-Moon bay” where our family explored tide pools one evening years ago. The sun was setting, while we played in the rocks, water, and sand. Beautiful, serene.
Peace for me comes through nature, prayer and meditation on God’s Word and songs. So, I am singing at the top of my lungs (sorry neighbors) some of my favorite praise songs. The hope remains, the view is unchanged and this morning my Savior still reigns.
Eugene Peterson in The Message says this:
Today I am praying “please God keep advocating for your children, for all the people of the world. Lord help me to see the hurt right here in my neighborhood, help me to be your hands and feet and spread love and peace in tangible ways. Help me to feed the hungry, touch the lonely, reach out with a kind word, pray for the stranger without a home. You have called me to this time and this place for a purpose and a plan that only you know the outcome to. Help me to keep your face in the forefront of my vision. This is your day, help me to live for you and in the power of your love.

If God did not hesitate to put everything on the line for us, embracing our condition and exposing himself to the worst by sending his own Son, is there anything else he wouldn’t gladly and freely do for us? And who would dare tangle with God by messing with one of God’s chosen? Who would dare even to point a finger? The One who died for us—who was raised to life for us! —is in the presence of God at this very moment sticking up for us. Do you think anyone is going to be able to drive a wedge between us and Christ’s love for us? There is no way! Not trouble, not hard times, not hatred, not hunger, not homelessness, not bullying threats, not backstabbing, not even the worst sins listed in Scripture.
None of this fazes us because Jesus loves us. I’m absolutely convinced that nothing—nothing living or dead, angelic or demonic, today or tomorrow, high or low, thinkable or unthinkable—absolutely nothing can get between us and God’s love because of the way that Jesus our Master has embraced us. (Romans 8: 31-39, The Message)
None of this fazes us because Jesus loves us.
