Behind the Mask
Way before most of us were born, Louis Armstrong had a hit song, in 1929, called "When you're smiling, when you're smiling...the whole world smiles with you."
Wow, gals don't have to wear lipstick now..no one sees that pretty smile. But, beneath the masks, what is going on down deep for all of you? Things are loosening up a bit. There now is some toilet paper. still no bacterial hand pump soap. some of the specials for the week were there, or not. BUT, regardless of people being polite, and following the necessary precautions, do you know what I missed? I miss the SMILES!!!
I read a story recently of a mother walking with her young daughter during a thunder storm. As they walked hand in hand there would be lightning and thunder around them. Whenever there was lightning the little girl would turn her head and smile. This happened a few times and finally the mother asked her why she was turning her head and smiling? The little girl said "whenever Gods flash bulb goes off I want to make sure I am smiling for His picture"
In Job there is a verse that says "When I smiled at them, they scarcely believed it; the light of my face was precious to them." Job 29:24
Perhaps you are someone who is coping pretty well, in spite of these circumstances. How are you doing that?
Or are you struggling with depression...no job, kids no longer going to schools and classes you have to help with, and driving you crazy?
Are you resorting to too much sleep, eating or drinking too much?
When was the last time you got to see someone SMILE? When is the last time YOU smiled?
As it says in Psalm 51:12 "Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me." May that be true for us all today.
