Amazed

Do you recall the first time you used a cell phone? What did it look like? What all did you use it for? Now think about all the ways you use your phone today. How has that changed your life? Do you ever marvel at the capacity your phone has for information transmission?

There is a passage in Psalm 8 where David was in awe of who God is and marveling at His creation. David speaks powerfully:
1 Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!
You have set your glory in the heavens.
2 Through the praise of children and infants
you have established a stronghold against your enemies,
to silence the foe and the avenger.
3 When I consider your heavens,
the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars,
which you have set in place,
4 what is mankind that you are mindful of them,
human beings that you care for them?
5 You have made them a little lower than the angels
and crowned them with glory and honor. Psalm 8:1-5

If someone asked you “What is God like?”, how could you reply based on David’s descriptions of God? Think of descriptive words.
Look back through this passage. What message does God convey to you through His creation?
What does this passage indicate about God’s view of you and I?
Also consider Psalm 19:1-6. How might prayer, meditation and appreciation of God’s creation intertwine?
For the director of music. A psalm of David.
The heavens declare the glory of God;
the skies proclaim the work of his hands.
Day after day they pour forth speech;
night after night they reveal knowledge.
They have no speech, they use no words;
no sound is heard from them.
Yet their voice goes out into all the earth,
their words to the ends of the world.
Just as a cell phone provides you many avenues to receive and share information, God communicates His love and care for us in a variety of ways. Just because you don’t hear an audible voice from God doesn’t mean He isn’t communicating daily guidance. He does this through circumstances, people, and most importantly through His word: the Bible. A 4-year-old-child can communicate what he/she knows to be true about God if he has already heard it from someone.

4832 Ponderings:
- How can your appreciation for the world God has created for us to live in impact your outlook on your daily life?
- Challenge yourself to think of all the ways God intervenes positively in your life. Perhaps say them out loud. Perhaps turn them into a prayer of thanksgiving. Or perhaps express the strengths of God just before you ask Him for help with a problem you are currently facing.
