Light on My Patio
One of the joys of summer for me is to sit out on the patio and enjoy the cool evening. A couple of summers ago I was blessed by a Father’s Day gift card that enabled me, with help, to hang a couple of strings of Edison lights. They are on a timer and always pleasantly surprise me as they click on. They are a source of beauty and charm, as they create a sense of peace and tranquility. In that, they become a symbol of God's light in my life. I am reminded of the truth of God’s light and direction in my life. They are a reminder that God is always with me and God's light can overcome any darkness.
In the Bible, light is referred to in a variety of ways. The first occurrence shows the mighty power of God in creation as He speaks light into existence. It is interesting that Jesus refers to Himself as light: "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life" (John 8:12).
Light is also a symbol of God's creativity and impact on my life. He is always at work in my life, even when I am unaware or cannot see it. Sometimes, it is only when I peer back on my life that I see how God has been actively, protecting, teaching, correcting, and shaping me. I am thankful for His patience with me!

Here are other truths about light from the Bible:
•"The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?" (Psalm 27:1)
•“The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned.” (Isaiah 9:2)
•"Your word is a lamp for my feet and a light for my path" (Psalm 119:105)
•"Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven" (Matthew 5:16)
When you become discouraged or frightened, I hope you remember the light that has already come because of God’s great love for you through Christ as He shines on you, sharing His love, hope, creativity, and blessings!
