God is Faithful

Often in the Old Testament, we are called upon to remember something of our past. Why do you think this is? We find an example of this at the beginning of Psalm 105 that declares, “Give praise to the Lord, proclaim His name; make known among the nations what He has done (Psalm 105:1).” This Psalm invites us into a rhythm of worship centered on remembering. It recounts God's mighty works and encourages us to “remember the wonders He has done (v.5).” In a world often marked by uncertainty and change, looking back at God's faithfulness provides strength for today and hope for tomorrow.

Throughout the Bible, remembering is more than nostalgia; it’s spiritual discipline. In Deuteronomy 7:9, we are reminded, “Know therefore that the Lord your God is God; He is the faithful God, keeping His covenant of love to a thousand generations.” God's past actions are the foundation for our trust in Him now. When we recall how He guided, provided, and protected His people, we are reassured that He will continue to do so for us today.

Psalm 105 recounts God's covenant with Abraham and the miraculous way He led His people out of Egypt. These stories aren’t just ancient history; they are testimonies of who God is. The same God who parted the Red Sea and fed His people manna in the wilderness is with us today. Hebrews 13:8 affirms, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.”

Life offers countless opportunities to witness God’s faithfulness in our own stories. Think of someone who, after a season of unemployment, now reflects on how God used that time to redirect their career and deepen their trust in Him. Or the offer on “the perfect house” falls through, but later God provides a much better option for you. Events like these testify to God’s timing as we exercise a deeper reliance on His plan. They echo the refrain of Psalm 105: “He remembers His covenant forever (v.8).”

In moments of anxiety about the future – financial insecurity, health crises, or family struggles – we can draw confidence from remembering how God has carried us through before. Lamentations 3:21–23 beautifully says, “Yet this I call to mind and therefore I have hope: Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”

As Jesus followers, we are called to testify to these truths. Sharing how God has worked in our lives isn't just encouragement, it is a declaration of our faith. Psalm 105 begins with, “Make known among the nations what he has done.” Our stories of God’s faithfulness can strengthen the faith of another who may be wavering. When we praise Him publicly, we not only honor God but plant seeds of hope in others.

Today, take time to remember how God has shown up in your life. Reflect on the answered prayers, the unexpected provision, the peace in chaos. Let remembrance fuel your faith, trusting that the God who was faithful then will be faithful now, and always. God’s past faithfulness is not just a comfort; it’s a promise of what’s to come. Let us, with grateful hearts, proclaim what He has done, confident that He will continue to do it again.
