Rest

“Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.” — Psalm 91:1
Over the past month, storms have swept through our area with an intensity that’s hard to forget. Just two weeks ago, hail the size of baseballs battered everything in its path—homes, vehicles, crops—nothing was spared. The relentless pounding of icy pellets served as a stark reminder of nature’s power and the damage it can cause.

Just two weeks ago, hail the size of baseballs battered everything in its path—homes, vehicles, crops—nothing was spared. The relentless pounding of icy pellets served as a stark reminder of nature’s power and the damage it can cause.

Yet, within the walls of our home, we experienced the quiet relief of being protected—sheltered from the chaos outside.
In much the same way, God invites us to find spiritual shelter in Him. He offers rest for our weary hearts when we lay our burdens at the foot of the cross. Often, I picture His mighty hands—holding me, holding the entire world. That image alone brings a deep sense of peace and protection.

But I’ll admit—there are moments when my mind wanders. Anxieties creep in, fears arise, and the “what ifs” take over. In those moments, I feel disconnected and overwhelmed.
Then, like a faithful Shepherd, the Lord gently extends His arm. With His staff, He redirects my thoughts and heart back to Him, reminding me that I am His—and He is mine. Psalm 23 echoes this truth: “The Lord is my Shepherd.” And once again, I find not only rest, but also hope, comfort, and the renewed ability to see beyond the present challenges.

This hope—the assurance that I am never alone—brings a rest that’s hard to explain. It’s the kind of peace that comes from knowing God’s forgiveness, mercy, and ever-present help, even in life’s most difficult moments. I’m grateful that this hope is Spirit-driven, nurtured through prayer, time in God’s Word, and fellowship with others walking this journey of faith.
Today, take a moment to thank God—for His protection, for His comfort, and for being our shelter not just in the calm, but in life’s fiercest storms.
